| Program |
Through simple living and joyous adventure in an accepting
community, the Sierra Friends Camp inspires individuals to value nature,
value themselves, and value others in order to build a more peaceful and
just world. Campers are nurtured and challenged by engaging in outdoor adventures,
artistic exploration, and play in the Sierra Foothills. Together we create
a camp that supports self-discovery, unity with nature, and community in
the spirit of Friends. The Sierra Friends Camp is organized by a team of dedicated people whose years as campers and counselors in Quaker camps were fundamental formative experiences, teaching us core values that have directed us through our lives. We come from a range of religious backgrounds, and all share core Quaker values. The organizers and staff are experienced in outdoor education, camping and backpacking, teaching drama and the arts, and working with children in a spirit of love and care. All staff will be trained in appropriate levels of wilderness first aid. The Sierra Friends Camp program is closely modeled on the 40-year-old Baltimore Yearly Meeting Camping Program, which runs four summer camps in Virginia and Maryland. |
